In todays (post-Hasina Govt) politics of Bangladesh, it has become imperative to reform the political culture of our country. The fall of Sheik Hasina has been significant moment in the country’s politics for sure. But most importantly to overcome this current political crisis and to ensure political stability and growth would require a strategic approaches.
A framework that our country could consider for such a transformation must include a Transition to Stronger Democratic Institutions which can be achieved by strengthen democratic institutions to ensure political stability and to eliminate the risk of autocratic leaderships. This could involve: By establishing independent electoral commissions . This could be achieved by Strengthen the independence and transparency of the Election Commission to ensure fair and free elections. It is important to implement caretaker govt style or similar strategies, where all political parties agreement would be essential in recruiting all election commissioners. This is how we can achieve multi-party participation and a fair, transparent general election process. This system will empower opposition parties and civil society to play constructive roles in governance. Furthermore, introduce voting system (such as digital/online) for more than 13 Million NRBs.
We also need to encourage local govt. by giving more administrative and financial power for more effective local politics and developments. Implement mandatory internal democracy policies within political parties to prevent dynastic politics and promote new leadership. Establish transparency in party funding. Judicial reforms are also vital to ensure accountability, Strengthening the separation of powers to prevent excessive influence by political leaders and he executives.
